Warning light questions
The questions we answer on the phone most weeks.
Can I just clear the light with a cheap OBD reader?
You can, and it will often come back within a few drives because the cause is still there. Clearing codes also wipes the freeze-frame data we use to find intermittent faults, so bring it in with the light still on if you can.
Is the €45 diagnostic fee taken off the repair?
Yes. If you go ahead with the repair we quote, the scan fee comes off the final bill. If you decide not to, you keep the written report.
The light comes and goes. Is it worth booking?
Yes. Intermittent faults are stored in the car's memory even after the light goes out. Note when it happens (cold start, after rain, over bumps) and tell us in the booking form.
Red or amber, what's the difference?
Red usually means stop or a safety system is affected. Amber means something needs attention soon. Some lights, like the check engine light, change meaning when they flash.
Do you check cars before VRT?
We can run a pre-VRT electrical check on lights, warning lamps and horn so there are no surprises at the test centre. Ask for it when you book.
Can you come to me if the car won't start?
For fleet customers on Priority plans, yes. For everyone else we can recommend a recovery service and will be ready for the car when it arrives.
